Academic Coaches

Academic Coaches will assist parent scholars with exploring careers, choosing educational paths, navigating school systems, maximizing financial aid, and goal setting. They will ensure the participant is on track with their educational goals and will assist with problem solving issues as they arise.

Responsibilities:

  • Coach parent scholars on higher education options, enrollment processes, academic success, or related topics
  • Suggest resources for academic success in areas such as career exploration, financial aid, social support
  • Assist parent scholars with developing study skills and self-advocacy in the higher education system
  • Develop relationships with higher education institutions and key personnel and advocate for parent scholar when necessary

Non-Negotiable Success Factors:

  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive personal or academic information
  • Apply cultural awareness while building trusting relationships
  • Abide by the BWEL Foundation mission, values and guiding principles
  • Pass a criminal background check (any history of convictions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis)

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience advising or supporting students in a higher education setting
  • Experience working within diverse communities
  • Ability to commit to a consistent schedule and make at least a 6 month commitment
